He was the information guide on the boat...and so i decided to talk him up to try my thai...

Last night we met up with our travel friends Mike and Serena for a last bite and drink on the island. We went to "Tiger Bar" and had some cheap good thai street food. I have pictures of gail pole dancing...but im not allowed to post them up...dont worry..ill put them up on my blackmail picture site.

Island Hike

Today we decided to hike up to the top of phi-phi island following the tsunami evacuation route, and onto some trails that lead to a couple viewpoints at the top of the island. It was a freaking climb...but it was well worth it. we chatted up the store owner at the top of the viewpoint...nice weathered old man who spoke english well...he pointed out there was a trail that lead farther up where no tourists usually go...so we did...it was amazing...there was a really rustic lookout point and a small pop-and-son cafe where we got a soda...and had some free bananas!

Hi All,

you must have heard about the bangkok bombings by now in the news....I am safe and sound here on Phi Phi Island...in Southern thailand....i dont get to bangkok for another two days.

The Phi-Phi islanders, locals - expats - and tourists alike, seem blissfully unaware...i think I just happen to read cnn.com whenever i get online...so I was up to date on the bangkok bombings.

I like to think im a safe traveller..so try not to worry about me...but thanks for your thoughts and concerns!...Our friend Taam is a bangkok local and we will be in good hands...and my travel style is to avoid the major touristy things...I try to have an immersive experience, living in bangkok as much like a local as I can.

How I spent new years eve...

There was definitely partying and drunkeness in the village streets...but we sought out something different. We spoke to the locals and the folks that work on the island..and found the best mellow, chill spot to ring in the new year. There is this charming beach bar called "sunflower bar" on the farside of the island...they were playing reggae music and there were beach lounges, thai pillows, banigs and mats...to sit on the beach...have drinks...and watch some low flying fireworks over the bay. ..the moon hung right over the center of the bay..and the fireworks were so close (i dont think safety was the first concern...but it was neat!)

when the countdown happened we toasted the folks around us...and just soaked up the good vibes. i spent some time texting someone special in my life, who I wish was there with me for that moment...but for now its a moment deferred...something to come home to :)

We're going to meet some of our new friends and rent a long tail boat to go exploring, swimming, and snorkeling...I wanna check out monkey beach and hopefully get in touch with my inner monkey.

Thailand Day 5 Phi-Phi Island..SHARKS! New Years eve

Local time is 16:58...im at a internet cafe on phi-phi island in the phi-phi don village.

phi-phi don and phi-phi ley are the two main islands here. Phi-phi ley was where "the beach" with Leo D was filmed.

I recently got back from a dive trip.....it was amazing...diving around these small islands...
Highlight was seeing two Leopard sharks! so close...i could have touched them. Leopard sharks arent people eaters...but if you bug em...they'll get mad...so i tried not to make them mad. And I did find nemo...in his home in the coral. I guess im up to 12 dives in my lifetime now...not bad.

Im actually still feeling the motion effects of scuba as im staring at this screen. We met some cool folks on this dive and throughout this trip....meeting international and local "small world" folks is half the fun of these travel adventurs. We met mike and serana on the dive boat...nurses from seattle on a long walkabout...they've been travelling for months now. We plan to hang out with them tommorow...and rent a local "long tail boat"( traditional island boats modified with an engine and propeller on a long tail) and tour / snorkel the islands around here on our own.

We learned a lot about the effects / after-effects of the tsunami 2 years ago talking with the dive shop owner, nick. its amazing to hear what was here before and is now gone....and how so much has already been rebuilt...and the plans for development. There is some construction / reconstruction going on here.

Its an international community here on phi phi island...lotta folks fell in love with the place and set up shops and restaurants here. were meeting a lot of ausies, sweedes, dutch...a whole bunch of other europeans...japanese....but theres very few americans...it sucks that americans arent too popular these days....I tell people Im Californian...and that seems to make me a little cooler.

There are so many of these little internet cafes in this little pedestrian town...right now there are a bunch of kids around me (probably the local kids /family of the owner). Theres this little girl using my chair as one of her parallel bars...i guess shes bored cuz her brothers/playmates are busy playing some games...looks like bubble bobble.

Getting here on the ferry yesterday was pretty fun...the ferry took a little tour before going to the pier. The pier here is so tiny...that the boats dock side by side...and you have to climb over / through other boats to finally get to the pier. I made friends with the porter who took our bags to the bungalow from the pier...he was a funny guy....we explored the village and island a bit and lounged out at a little beach side bar....in a fun little cabana/hut. everything here is a little more "raw" no polish like hawaii...all feels very real.

this little girl here is really interested in what im typing...i wonder if she can read this ...her brother is playing a game next to me and is dismissing her when she seems to want attention...2 cute.

anyways..its new years eve tonight...so im gonna rest up...for some partying... more details...tommorow ...maybe ;)

Thailand Day 3 - Island Safari

Got up early today to go on our Island Safari!

We had to say bye to Taam and Delphine leave this afternoon for their Live aboard scuba trip...we'll see them again at phuket airport to return to Bangkok.

The bus ride to the Khao Sak national park was long (2.5 hrs)...was getting bus-sick..luckily they stopped at some cool spot for a good break. The scenery started getting very rural and rustic..as we neared the park and climbed up some mountains. (the roads are well maintained by the way...).

When we arrived at the park..our guides cooked us a great thai meal....i couldnt get enough of some noodles i dont know the name off.

We started off with an elephant trek...this was bananas fun! The elephants are rescued from hard logging labor...and now spend their lives shlepping humans around the jungle...which is a much better life than they had before. We gotta little education about the jungle and elephant conservation activities....what was cool was the little village that the trainers/handlers/guides lived in...we saw a goat tied to a tree... I joked with gail that his name was "dinner".

Gail and I were little kid giddy...and the jungle trek was amazing...the elephants are suprisingly quiet as they make their way through the jungle...only making noise when they "talk" or snap off a snack along the way. Gail was being very immature and tried to take pictures of one of the elphant's dick....it was by all expectations...huge-normous. The views along the trail were amazing....

The next part of the safari was a canoe excursion. I was little disappointed that only the guides were rowing...but then i guess its probably not smart to let a city slicker paddle their way through the jungle. We saw a few mangrove? i think they are called...snakes on trees overhanging the river. My immature moment came when i prenteded to try and shake one of the snakes down by pulling on the vines...to get a scare out of gail....everyone was laughing....but i would have been such the asshole if the poisonous snake actually fell down into someones canoe. I felt like i was in some discovery channel documentary...we stopped midway on the side of the river for a coffee and snack break.

The bus trip home was a whole nother adventure. We decided to sit up front ..to get less bus-sick....then I decide to look down and realize that the bus driver's dashboard gauges all dont work! Homie didnt even know how fast...or how much gas the bus had. and im sure youve all heard about driving tactics in thailand...I had so many shit my pants moments...as we careened down the mountain....not paying attention to the divider...i felt like we were blowing down the folks all balanced on scooters on the side of the road. maybe ignorance is bliss...shoulda just closed my eyes....

I'm in Thailand! Day 2

Im safe and sound in thailand...right now im at an internet cafe in Patong Beach, phuket....local time 11pm.

my first day night (last night) in thailand was a blur...from being tired from 22 hrs of flights and stopovers.

This morning it was nice to not be in a moving object. I feel at home here even though i dont speak the language...prob because the sites sounds and smells remind me of the philippines.

We had a great home cooked breakfast from our friend's family (taam's family) in bangkok...before leaving for a short flight to phuket (southern thailand).
Her family home in Bangkok reminds me of the gated homes in the philippines...the construction, decor, and scents. Taam's parents were nice and sweet...making us feel really welcome...a great example of thai kindness.

so far ive been to the beach...had a thai massage..and eaten a lot of good thai street food.

Thai massage...I guess i can explain..is like a cross between yoga, accupressure, physical therapy, and sports medicine. The massuese uses their limbs to leverage your body and add extra pressure...felt like your body is being placed in some simple yoga positions. Some of the more stretch-like moves felt like a physical therapy / sports medicine session...where your joints are manipulated...etc. It was great...totally felt relaxed and sleepy after....i was totally useless...like a floppy bag of jelly barely held together with my skeleton.

Phuket Patong Beach is a crazy busy town. The resort looked sketchy at first until we entered and saw how nice the place was on the other side facing the beach.

Tommorow I head off on my thailand trip...

I'll try to keep this updated along the way...Im going to stay awake as much as I can tonight so I can crash out on the flight (11 hrs) + (6.5 hrs )...luckily I have friend willing to keep me busy so I can stay up! the plane ride is prob. gonna be really un-fun. Just gotta focus on the prize!

I'm done. my liver hurts. I think I like the local / chill las vegas scene better. The good DJ bars with good music...and cool folks. I think im pretty much over the big club glam thing....all kinds of random trash ...dressed up...rolls into those places.

I had a good time at V-bar on thursday...good DJ ...chill and friendly folks. It was refreshing to find a scene thats not wannabe glam.

Dinner at the Social Club

Whenever I'm in SF I'm usually busy with Massive Selector shit. and Social club venue activities...so its hard to re-connect with the different circles of friends. So I organized a private, lil dinner thing at our spot...to see the folks..and also get their feedback on our new menu. Our Kitchen is closed these days in prep for renovations to come...but we open up for special engagements. Thanks a lot Dre and Tim for making it happen! our chef's and menu designers. these cats were mad busy with other events during the day at the Soc. Club and still pulled it through for the dinner.

It was fun sharing the venue / bar experience with the peoples. It was kinda like an early holiday dinner. The food was great the folks gave good feedback and I'm looking forward to doing more of these in the future.

I am in San Francisco this weekend for wonder-Full. Our annual Stevie Wonder Celebration party. Every year we pack mighty with 1000 Stevie Wonder fans....with DJ Spinna and Bobbito moving the crowd and playing only songs written, performed, or sampled from stevie wonder. That is more than one nights worth of music!

It was fucking bananas! the crowd was into it....and it was good to be home with the friends again...seeing and partying with all the folks...the SF fams. I lost my voice belting out some songs. THe night went well logistically and most imortantly...the crowd had a blast. The folks were diverse, friendly, fun, stylin' and really into the music. It is fun being part of the SF scene...this was the most anticipated / sought after event in our scene for the past few months. big ups to the Massie Selector...Fresco and PST crew.

I had a chance to share my slice of SF life with some of my San Diego fams...even Sanjeev came in from toronto. Its fun being able to manifest something that was only something you were able to talk about.

Went to sushi deli and ice skating at horton plaza with Babette, Ollie, Rianne, and Mary. The sushi happy hour crew.

I have Ice Skates now. used ones from play it again sports. I got a pretty good pair of CCM Ice hockey skates for less than 100 bucks...in relatively new condition. Its not high end or anything but i doubt I will reach the performance limit of the skates with my current ice skating skills.

Its a good off season (off season roller hockey) way for me to keep my skate legs...and fun holiday time thing to do with friends. and i do wanna try at least one season of ice hockey since a lot of the gear i have for roller hockey will work.

I'm not a bad going around in circles one direction skater...so if anyone is down...I'm always looking for a chance to lace up my skates.

Went out for thanksgiving eve...libations with the San Diego folks (+ desi in town for fams). chillin out at bar dynamite.

Paula and her roommate both left their house keys inside their apartment so we had to break in so I could pee...and they can get home. It was ridiculous.

Yes thats me....with paula on my shoulders. and no its not as fun as you might think it is. I really had to pee. and this debacle was getting in the way of sweet releif. oh and One word to describe the paula on shoulders experience...

"Ma-ASIM". (thats tagalog for sour )

and the girls kept laughing making it harder to focus on the task at hand. and i felt like a human thigh master...every time paula would laugh.

They would have been shit out of luck for a human ladder if I didn't need to take a piss.

Grubbin Thankgiving

Whenever we are in LA we try to make time to visit my Mom's and Lola's resting place. I snapped a few pics of the flower arrangments, it was so nice ...i wanted to capture it. The Bird's of paradise come from our yard here in Carlsbad..and so does a lot of the greenery filler. That's my Dad's green thumb at work.

Rob came down to spin at zanzibar in Santa Monica...for the Quality party. Haul and Mason's regular weekly...we book those guys monthly in the bay so its time they hosted our boys this time around in LA. Rob rocked the house and kept everyones ass moving...so i would call that a success. Massive Selector does LA again...whuuut.

It was good seing the LA folkers, and getting faded since I could walk to my hotel. I was basically working most of the day participating in hiring events...and i was down to get my relax on.

luckily i wasnt drunk enough to dance on stage...i was able to maintain presence of mind even when Dani and Chi were trying to Jedi Drunken Mind Trick me into freaking a blonde train.

Background:
My company does a college hiring event called super saturday. Candidates are invited to one of our offices to do a whole day workshop / interview process. These candidates have already made it through a few rounds of campus interviews and possibly programming tests / buisness case evaluations or design reviews.

There are group and individual activities where we can both (Sapient and the candidates) can evaluate our fit for each other.

This time we had one in the Santa Monica office...and I was able to make a trip up...and stay over night.

Thoughts:
Man I always feel old when I do these things, I'm happy where I am of course...and glad to be my age...but seeing these college kids at the beginning of their careers always makes you take a step back and reflect.
i have 8 to 9 years on these new grads and I can really feel it.

Shit..it has been a long time since I left Cal...and you can see the same fears, uncertainties, ambitions, and cockiness in these candidates that you had.

Some of the candidates were from Cal..Stanford...and the big game was the same day. We kicked stanford butt.

I was impressed by this batch of grads and I hope to see a few them around after they graduate. I'm glad we go through this process where a lot of the company is involved in hiring. It makes sense...you want the best of the best to be on your team...and you really feel like you are helping build the company by bringing in its future leaders.

I'm sucha jackass. I hate being sick...and i go into denial. I started feeling ill this past sat after the breedlove concert ...but thought i shook it off by sleeping in on Sun. Played hockey this past tuesday...and I really felt it wed night. So I slept in and stayed home today. I hate missing work cuz im sick..not because im a work-a-holic..but things just are more annoying when they pile up.

im one of those kids that gets perfect attendance...i think its lame to miss work just cuz you're sick. Its not like im doing anything phsyical...i sit at a computer. of course i dont want to be patient zero or anything...so if im really symptomatic, ill stay home.

I'm glad i stayed home today...getting cold chills..and feeling really really unsexy.

we won our hockey game tonight. not to get all sports testosterone and stuff...but this win felt so fucking sweet! The other team was real whiny...being chumps and taking cheap shots....and we beat them with no subs! Fuk Yeah Bitches!

im not agro...but sometimes i just love playing hockey. maybe its what keeps me mellow and all peace mentallity. I got a healthy way to be competitive and release aggression...and the chance to lay the hurt on someone random...all in good sport. even the aches, pains, and bruises kinda remind you you're alive...and doing shit...other than sitting on my ass and watching TV after work.

No worries about work or whatever...and afterwards i get the best sleep of the week...just knock out tired.

Love Parade San Francisco

My crew had a float in love parade in san francisco this year. crazyness. we handled a few events in the city and the whole thing was fun...but one huge comedy also.

Imagine getting a bunch of nightlife promoters / club owners / club kids together to get a daytime parade together. most people were still recovering from whatever they did the night before.

the 20,000 people at the parade / civic center was overwhelming...but it was a fun party. my ears are damaged. pictures are worth a 1000 words.

Sailing through San Diego

I had the best time sailing on SD bay. I've been on boats/cruise ships before...but this is the first time I actively played a role in sailing a 32 foot sail boat. I think I've caught the sailing bug...I have a new found respect for the sport and skill of sailing a boat...and surprisingly its not that difficult to get into. Sailing was one of those things that seemed like "rich" people do, but those sailing clubs actually provide access to boats and classes that are pretty affordable.

Theres definitely a zen like feeling when you feel the power of the wind move the boat...and you hear no engine noise, just the ocean and the wind in the sails. I hope that I can do some more sailing in my lifetime, maybe explore it as another hobby.

This is my 7 of 8 wedding this year. Crazy.

I had a blast with the aure's...congratulations Jenn and Mark! I've been having a lot of fun at these weddings...the parties are off the hook...the vibe is great, everyones in the love mood...good friends...and drinks...cant go wrong.

Hockey Heads...

We took home 2nd place from the hockey finals last night. It was a physical, good, tough game...we battled hard to make it to the playoffs...and it was sweet making it to the final. The score was 6-7.

Time goes by so fast...I didn't realize it's almost been 1 and half years that I've been playing hockey with my team here in San Diego. It doesn't feel that long ago when I was playing with my Bay area team at Bladium in Alameda.

The team chemistry is pretty tight...pretty cool when you realize we kinda just got thrown together and picked up people here and there. It's a good group of guys to play hockey with and have a beer or two after...lookin' forward to next season.

Normally I would be up in the bay area for a long weekend like this one...its the first time in a long time I havent made a trip in almost 2 months.

I wanted to chill out, spend some time in SD..and enjoy the life I have here...but damn if things dont pop up that pull your heart in two directions.

I wish I had a star trek transporter so I could just hop back and forth...cuz tonight it would have been a lot of fun to check out these joints in SF.

I didn't beleive until she brought out some photo evidence....

I have come to realize that after 5 kettle-tonics....my nose goes numb. Then I spend the rest of the night checking to see if its still there...hoping the rest of my face doesn't fall off.

I had a great time in San Francisco...damn I miss SF. Good times with the peeps there....here are the pics from Wonderful and Halloween for you crazy kids.

Seeing all the (you) folks makes me realize where I really belong. I'm here in SD getting my career on right now, but the bay is definitely in my future. I just realized that this past october was my 2 year anniversary here in San Diego...this past year here has been great...new friends and a new life...but SF is the Soul's home. I wonder sometimes if all my friends were in LA, or all here in SD if it would make me love those cities too.....but I think that SF draws like minded people to it.....so the bay area, Berkeley / SF...created an environment where we could meet and grow....I don't know if it would be the same in any other city. we're all from different places..but we were drawn to the bay for one reason or another and ended up staying there and calling it home...oh well enough wannabe deep thoughts....

I haven't danced my ass off like that in a long time...and I think I drank my face off on Sat in the mission...now I think im getting sick. all good...well worth it.

I scored a goal today in hockey! woohoo!
It may not seem like a big deal..but it is to me.hahaha thanks to a great pass from my teammate..big L.
now im part of the club...(scores are low in hockey like soccer...so a goal is a nice stat to have ) too bad we lost the game though...we beat the team once before...well see them in the playoffs most likely...
